The figure above compares energy expenditures per capita for the state of Arkansas to those of the nation as a whole. Arkansas energy expenditures per person have historically tracked very closely to the national average; however, in the late 1980s a steeper increase in energy expenditures for the state opened a gap between the two. This gap has persisted through the present period.
