1970-2004 U.S. Energy Expenditures

The figure demonstrates the similarity between the nation's energy expenditures and those of Arkansas. The figure tracks total expenditures and primary fuel expenditures from 1970 through 2004. While there is a difference in scale, the nation's and Arkansas' graphs look similar. The similarity of these two graphs indicates that there is a common factor that influences both of them. Price, as will be shown later in the report, will prove to be the common driver of expenditures for both the state and the nation.
