In 2004 natural gas made up 33 percent of the commercial sector energy consumption. Petroleum made up the second largest share with 26 percent followed by biomass and electricity with 21 percent and 17 percent respectively. The industrial sector consumes a broader range of fuels than the other two economic sectors, and is not as dependent on one or two fuel types to supply the majority of its energy. This can be attributed to the fact that the industrial sector encompasses a very diverse set of businesses and industries which have both the capital and the flexibility to build the infrastructure needed to use the most efficient and cost-effective fuel.
