1960-2004 U.S. CO2 Emissions by Economic Sector

Here carbon dioxide emissions beginning in the year 1960 are outlined. The graph shows CO2 emissions for each economic sector at the national level. In the United States the three largest contributing sectors are electric power, transportation, and industrial. CO2 emissions in the U.S. electric power sector have risen 47 percent in the last two decades. In that same period, CO2 emissions in the U.S. for transportation have risen 39 percent. In 2004 the U.S. residential sector accounted for 6.6 percent of the total CO2 emissions while, CO2 emissions for the United States totaled 5,923 million metric tons.
