1980-2004 Arkansas Gross State Product and Energy Consumption
Note: Gross State Product is in Chained 2000 Dollars
Source: Bureau of Economic Analysis, Energy Information Agency
As previously stated, Arkansas's gross state product has been climbing steadily for a number of years. The 1990s were years of tremendous economic growth at both the state and national levels. This growth was stalled by a recession early in the 21st century, but the data indicate the state is now on a path of continued growth. The figure above, illustrates the growth in Arkansas gross state product since 1977. The figure also details the state's energy consumption over the same period. Energy consumption has exhibited much the same behavior as gross state product. Consumption rose steadily through the 1990s, declined in the early 21st century, but now has begun to increase once again.
